Today is the last effective day of this training camp in Tenerife. After yesterday's heavy ride up El Teide today was about two things. First to get a recovery ride of about 50 kilometers on the racing bike. Just to ease the legs, and get the blood flowing through the body. Nothing special training wise, just keeping the watts and the heart rate low. It was also a great excuse to get some nice video's for the website. I'll be uploading them in a few days. The second part of the day was about...

And then it's already Saturday. Only 2 complete days of training possibilities left. Monday evening i'm flying back to the Netherlands. So Monday will just be on the mountain bike exploring the unexplored parts of this region. I've spotted a nice little abandoned church on a hillside about 10 kilometers from here. I will try to ride there somehow. And please don't get me wrong. I've loved every moment here, but it will be so nice to hold my girl again. Yesterday I decided today would be a ride...

Today was planned as my well deserved rest day. After 4 days of intensive training my body needed the day off the bike. Sometimes, for me at least, it's important to do other things, just to remind me how much I love riding my bike. So, today I planned a visit to La Gomera. A small island next to Tenerife. From the east coast you can see it. If it's clear outside. The trip lead by bus to Los Cristianos, a 50 minutes ferry to San Sebastian(which is the capitol of La Gomera), a roundtrip on the...

As is the case everyday I woke up around 9 am to do my morning stretching before breakfast. I found that this warms up my body, and this helps me, especially when the road starts going up immediately. Yesterday evening I decided today was going to be a ride along the coastline towards El Medano. In doing so I would also get to see the airport from the other side. As I haven't really seen it, since I've arrived. The route selected was a nice road that leads through all the coast villages and...

Woke up this morning to the soundtrack of Flashdance. I think it was some elderly people doing aqua gym in the pool. Not something you need to see, trust me. As I opened my apartment doors the sun was welcoming me. The thermometer was showing 29 degrees Celsius. So, a perfect day for cycling. Whilst having breakfast and a coffee, I remembered the 2 Belgian guys from yesterday mentioning something about these amazing cliffs emerging from the sea called Los Gigantes. I just had to check it out. I...

After yesterday's ascent on El Teide today was all about riding a nice easy loop around Playa de Las Americas. The plan was to go to Playa de Las Americas and then take the small roads towards Vilaflor. This a small village, mostly known for it's Bordega vignes. I put the route into my Garmin and it recons it's about a 65 kilometer loop. That's exactly what I needed. After my morning coffee, breakfast and a Facetime call with my lady at home, I went on my way. 12 kilometers into the ride I...

Sometimes things just don't go as planned. Today was supposed to be an easy recon day. But it quickly turned into a 58 kilometer ascent to El Teide. The day started by getting some essential groceries. Pasta's, bread, tuna, Nutella, and the most important thing: Coffee. There is a supermarket close by and everyone is very helpful there. Also compliments to my apartment. A 3 room king size apartment is more than I need but it's nice to be able to put my bikes in separate rooms, if they get into...
